Gieterijkeramisch zand, technisch genoemd als "Gesinterd keramisch zand voor gieterij", ook wel ceramsite, ceramcast genoemd, hetzelfde met cerabeads, sommige landen worden ook Golden Sand genoemd, is een goede kunstmatige bolvormige korrelvorm die is gemaakt van gecalcineerd bauxiet. De belangrijkste inhoud is aluminiumoxide en siliciumoxide. Keramisch zand heeft veel betere eigenschappen dan kwartszand, waardoor het beter presteert in de gieterij. Het heeft een hoge vuurvastheid, weinig thermische uitzetting, goede hoekcoëfficiënt, uitstekende vloeibaarheid, hoge weerstand tegen slijtage, verbrijzeling en thermische schokken, hoge terugwinningssnelheid.

Voordeel

Kaist ceramic foundry sand is about half as light as zircon and chromite, is about third as light as fused ceramic sand. Compared to these natural sand and other foundry media (the material is able to turn out about twice the number of molds per unit weight). Kaist ceramic foundry sand can deliver mold and core packages with a range of benefits that include higher-strength sand casting packages, with high heat resistance, low thermal expansion, improved final part resolution and a smoother surface finish. It can also be handled very easily, saving labor and transfer power costs. However, the manufacturer recommends paying attention to the amount of binder addition.

Als neutraal materiaal is KAIST keramisch zand toepasbaar op zuur- en alkaliharsen.

Het kan op grote schaal worden gebruikt voor het gieten van gietijzer, gietstaal en non-ferrometalen, zoals verloren schuimgieten, gecoat zand, harszand, koude kerndoos, precisiegieten en 3D-printen.
