Global Casting Production Report | Significant Decrease in Global Casting Production in 2020

According to the global casting production census conducted by the American Foundry Association Modern Casting magazine, due to the impact of the new coronavirus COVID-19, in 2020, other countries and regions in the world except China reported a decrease in casting production.

In 2020, all parts of the world have been affected by shutdown policies due to the global pandemic of COVID-19. Among the countries and regions that received the census of casting production, almost all countries and regions reported a significant decline in production. The only exception to this is China, which was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic earlier than most countries, but recovered sooner, with total casting production of 51.95 million tons, up 6.6% from the previous year. This was the increase after two consecutive years of production cuts.

China, India and the United States once again ranked among the top three global casting production. Casting production in India fell by 1.5%, the United States fell by 13.7%, followed by Russia, Germany, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Turkey, Brazil. The output of the top ten casting producing countries in the world is shown in Figure 1.

The new member participating in this census is Indonesia. According to the Indonesian Foundry Industry Association (APLINDO), Indonesia's casting production in 2020 was 589,779 tons, mainly aluminum alloy castings.

The global casting production census data is provided by foundry associations in various countries or regions, as well as the World Foundry Organization, the European Foundry Association, etc.
